Three new cases of COVID-19 Friday in Chaves County

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 124 new cases of COVID-19 in the state in Friday’s case update, including three in Chaves County.

Bernalillo County reported 31 cases, San Juan County 22 and Doña Ana County 13. Fifteen counties reported fewer than 10 cases each.

The total number of cases in New Mexico is now 202,821, with 9,103 in Chaves County.

Six deaths related to COVID-19 were reported Friday, with two in Doña Ana County, and one each in Bernalillo, Grant, McKinley and Mora counties. Two had been hospitalized and three had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19 is 4,263.

As of Friday, 109 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

Friday afternoon, the NMDOH vaccine dashboard reported 55.3% of New Mexicans age 16 or older have been fully vaccinated and 65.2% have received at least one dose. In Chaves County, 34.5% are fully vaccinated and 40.2% have received at least one dose.

Chaves County is at the Green Level in the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system, having met two of the three gating criteria used by the state. Those two criteria are average number of daily cases at or below 10 cases per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 7.5% or less. The county was at 5.6 cases per day and a test positivity of 2.38%. The goal for full vaccination rate in the latest assessment was 45%.
