Illa Jolene Goins, 85, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 21, 2021, peacefully at home with family members and her beloved dachshund, Amy Jo by her side.

Jolene was born on April 5, 1936, to George Jackson William Palmer “Bus” Fiber and Mary Irene Householder in East Liverpool, Ohio. She attended East Liverpool High School through her junior year where she was a drum majorette leading the marching band. Jolene moved to Gallup, NM, just prior to her senior year of high school and graduated from Gallup High School in 1954.

On November 24, 1957, Jolene married Sam Ray, Sr. and they worked side by side in the family business, Tony Ray’s Power Plants, in Gallup, New Mexico, which included sales and service for Onan and Witte generators. In 1971, they became the owners of Ray’s Enterprise (formerly Tony Ray’s Power Plants) which continued to provide sales and service for generators, Honda motorcycles, and Polaris snowmobiles.

In 1982, Jolene moved to Roswell, New Mexico, and in 1985 she married Elijah LeRoy Goins, her loving husband of thirty-three wonderful years; spending time in their “peaceful valley”.

Jolene retired from Roswell Eastern New Mexico Medical Center as the operating room secretary. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Penasco Valley Auxiliary 3187 of Roswell, NM, member of the Roswell Downtown Lions Club of Roswell, NM and a member of the Gallup Elks Lodge of Gallup, NM.

An avid traveler, Jolene spent her life planning for and anticipating the next adventure. She was always ready to “hit the road” and see where it would take her next. Jolene was an adventurous dreamer, and inspiring goddess. She was graceful, elegant, fierce, strong, faithful, quick witted, funny, loving, courageous, compassionate, generous, and beautiful. Jolene was giving and caring, always stepping up to help those in need and often opening her home to those who needed love and care. She would almost always start her phone calls with “Hi Darlin” and always ended it with “I Love You”.

Jolene could watch her favorite teams (Broncos, Packers, Spurs or Pirates) while having a conversation with you and never miss a stitch in her crochet or knitting. Quick with a smile and always ready to give advice. With her late husband LeRoy, they would travel where the road took them. Jolene loved watching her children compete in a High School rodeo and playing baseball. She enjoyed attending the weekly prayer group, knitting, crochet, dancing, fishing, hunting, riding in the jeep and having picnics in the forest, snowmobiling, bowling, playing board or card games with beloved friends and neighbors, and cherished time spent with her best friends, the “sisterhood”. Jolene loved attending the Goins family reunions in Bay Minette, Alabama, where her memory will live on with the family and friends she has there.

Those left to cherish Jolene’s memory are her sons: Sam Ray Jr. (Debbie), Anthony F. Ray (Connie), Raymond Goins (Laurie) and Don Goins (Tammy); daughter, Matejka Santillanes (Jay); sisters: Enola Keller, Jimmie Roybal, Callie Mae Hickman and Wilma Lyman.

Twenty grandchildren: John Ray, Jason Ray, Sheri D. Ray, Jesse D. Ray, Lanae D. Ray, Tony Arriaga, Kimberly Taylor, Joseph Santillanes, William Goins, Lyrics Fain, Drea Davis, Kaileigh Goins, JD Davis, Joe Kidd, Rebecca Kidd, John Mongin, Carrie Youngblood, Andrea Goodman, Alex Goins and Michael Goins; eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dachshund, Amy Jo.

Jolene is preceded in death by her husband, Elijah LeRoy Goins; parents, Bus and Mary Irene Householder; grandparents: Otho Householder and Illa Vern Householder; sister, Charlotte Irene Fiber; stepsons: Larry Goins and Timothy Goins; stepdaughter, Nancy Mongin; and ten brothers and sisters-in-law.

Jolene and Leroy also have extended families that remain dear to their hearts, Michael Johnston, Chrisynthia Fitzpatrick, Chase Uhrich, Dakota Van Winkle and Brent Busby.

A Memorial Service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10:00 AM. A reception will be held following the service. Additional information will be provided at a later date.
