Brandon Cooper of Roswell plays a round of golf at the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course Saturday. Cooper was one of the participants in the 12th Annual Roswell Elks for Vets Charity Golf Tournament, with proceeds going to the Southeast New Mexico Veterans Transportation Network. Steve Puntch, one of the tournament’s organizers, said 112 people had signed up as of about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. A press release issued by tournament organizers Monday stated that $26,100 had been raised by community donations to the tournament. The SENM Veterans Transportation Network drives veterans free of charge to VA medical facilities from Roswell, Artesia, Carlsbad, Hobbs, Clovis and surrounding communities. More than 50% of its operating budget comes from donations to this event. (Alex Ross Photo)
