Chaves County reports 3 new COVID-19 cases

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 103 new cases of COVID-19 and three related deaths in its daily case report Thursday.

The report included three new cases in Chaves County, 20 in Bernalillo County, 14 in Doña Ana County and 10 in Santa Fe County. Nineteen other counties each reported fewer than 10 cases.

The state has now reported a total of 203,919 cases of COVID-19. Chaves County’s total is 9,041, adjusted for one previously reported case identified as a duplicate, according to Thursday’s report.

The deaths reported Thursday were a man in his 50s from Rio Arriba County who had been hospitalized, a woman in her 90s from San Juan County who had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions, and a man in his 80s from Bernalillo County who had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19 is 4,295 including 169 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 100 people are hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

The number of New Mexicans age 16 and older who have completed a vaccine series is 961,945, or 57.2% of the population. More than 1.1 million have had at least one dose, or 66.6%.

In Chaves County, 36.3% of residents 16 and older have completed a vaccine series and 41.5% have received at least one dose.

Chaves County, along with all other New Mexico counties, is in the Turquoise Level of the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system, and will stay there until 60% of New Mexicans are fully vaccinated. At that point, the state will graduate from the color-coded risk system and open fully from COVID-related restrictions.
