Chaves County reports 3 new COVID-19 cases Friday

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 122 new cases of COVID-19 in the state Friday.

That included three new cases in Chaves County, 35 new cases in Bernalillo County, 17 in San Juan County and 16 in Sandoval County. Fifteen counties and the Torrance County Detention Facility each reported seven or fewer cases.

The total number of cases in the state is 204,698 including 9,062 in Chaves County.

Six deaths were reported Friday. The deceased included a man in his 60s from Curry County, two men in their 70s from Bernalillo and Otero counties, two women in their 70s from Torrance and Quay counties, and a man in his 80s from Los Alamos County. Four had been hospitalized and three had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19 is 4,316 including 169 in Chaves County.

As of Friday, 95 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

Friday’s total number of New Mexicans age 16 or older who have completed a vaccination series is 998,224, or 59.4% — close enough to 60% that the governor declared the state would open from pandemic restrictions in two weeks on July 1.

At total of 1,141,755 New Mexicans 16 or older have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, amounting to 67.9%.

Among New Mexicans age 12 to 15, 17,609, or 15.8%, have completed the vaccine series while 28,522, or 25.6%, have had at least one dose.

Chaves County and all other New Mexico counties will remain in the Turquoise Level of the state’s risk assessment system until July 1.
