The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Chaves County and four other counties until at least noon Monday.

Northeast winds of 25 miles an hour to 35 miles an hour are being experienced, with gusts of up to 50 miles an hour possible.

Other counties under the advisory include Curry, DeBaca, Quay and Roosevelt.

The Weather Service recommends that drivers be aware of winds blowing across roads. Gusts could also knock down tree limbs or blow around unsecured objects.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation also had issued an alert regarding blowing dust in Chaves County and at 8:10 a.m. announced the closure of about 8 miles of U.S. 285 north of Roswell due to an accident involving several vehicles that required many emergency vehicles in the area. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.
