MainStreet Roswell will present its First Annual AlienFest 2021 in downtown Roswell July 1-3.

The organization coordinated the UFO Festival for the City of Roswell for the past five years and has “decided to create an event that focuses on the merchants’ success in the MainStreet district,” according to a press release from MainStreet.

MainStreet is working with the city to help enhance the UFO Festival now being coordinated by In Depth Events. AlienFest will provide additional events for visitors and residents for the July 4 weekend.

The AlienFest is organizing costume contests for pets and people at the Chaves County Courthouse. The contests are free to enter, and the entrants can win cash prizes. The Alien Costume Contest will be held Friday, July 2 at 9 p.m. and the pets on Saturday, July 3 at 10 a.m. Entry forms and information are available at www.ufofestivalroswell.com.

The AlienFest is also offering the official Roswell passport to support downtown merchants, according to the press release.

Passports can be picked up at the information tent on the courthouse lawn. Passport holders will take part in a scavenger hunt that includes 47 merchants downtown. When a passport holder finds an item, they will choose the correct answer in the passport. The more items they find, the more entries they will have to win prizes, including $500 cash. This is only for those 18 and over. Passports can also be turned in to be awarded free 2021 AlienFest memorabilia.

AlienFest is also host to many free, family-friendly activities, including Games by Galacticon, Partying with Pollinators, the New Mexico 44th Army Band, Alien Hat Making, free crafts, Desert Willow Wildlife Rehab Center Animals, official Roswell mascots Arthas and Ysera, a Vitalant Blood Drive, and free music.

Two entertainers returning to Roswell for the AlienFest are the 501st Dewback Ridge Garrison and the RoboTRON LED Dancing Robots.

“We are excited about holding the first AlienFest in downtown Roswell,” said Juliana Halvorson, event organizer. “Our downtown merchants have been greatly affected by the State of New Mexico’s shutdown and need our support more than ever.

“By holding events in the downtown district and encouraging people to shop our local merchants through the Passport Program, we hope our event has a positive impact on Roswell.”
