Local woman among state’s COVID-19 deaths

A Chaves County woman was among the 10 deaths related to COVID-19 reported Thursday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

The woman in her 60s had been hospitalized, according to the health department’s daily case update. The total number of deaths for Chaves County is now 172. Statewide, there have been 4,372 deaths.

The other nine deaths reported Thursday were from Bernalillo, Guadalupe, McKinley, Otero, San Juan and Taos counties. Eight had been hospitalized and five had underlying health conditions.

Thursday’s update also reported 155 new cases of COVID-19 in the state including six in Chaves County.

Doña Ana County reported 25, Bernalillo County had 23, and Eddy and McKinley counties each had 11. Seventeen counties and the Otero County Processing Center each reported fewer than 10 cases.

The state’s total number of cases is 207,002, with 9,103 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 86 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.

According to the NMDOH vaccine dashboard Thursday, 63.8% of New Mexicans age 18 or older have completed a vaccine series and 71.8% have had at least one dose.
