County reports 7 new COVID-19 cases Friday

Seven new cases of COVID-19 in Chaves County were among the 244 reported in the state Friday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

The daily case update also included 93 new cases in Bernalillo County, 18 in Eddy County, 15 in Sandoval County, 14 at the Otero County Processing Center, 13 in Otero County, 12 in San Juan County and 10 in Lea County.

Eleven counties and the Otero County Federal Prison Facility each reported fewer than 10 cases.

The total number of cases in the state is now 208,487 including 9,135 in Chaves County.

Three deaths were reported — a woman in her 70s from San Juan County who had been hospitalized, a woman in her 60s from Bernalillo County and a man in his 70s from Doña Ana County who was a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Betty Dare facility in Alamogordo.

As of Friday, 106 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state, the first time that number has been over 100 since June 15, according to data on the NMDOH COVID-19 dashboard.

In vaccinations, 64.2% of New Mexicans 18 or older have completed a vaccine series, while 72.2% have at least one dose. In Chaves County, 41.6% have completed a vaccine series while 46.4% have at least one dose.
