State reports 401 new cases of COVID-19

More than 400 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state Thursday by the New Mexico Department of Health. The report of 401 cases was the largest single-day report in the department’s daily case updates since mid-May.

Twenty-three cases were reported in Chaves County. Two other southeast New Mexico counties also reported high numbers — Eddy County with 45 and Lea County with 30.

The total number of cases in the state is now 210,085 with 9,205 in Chaves County.

One death was reported Thursday, a man in his 80s from Bernalillo County who passed away more than 30 days ago. The total number of deaths in the state is 4,408 with 172 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 140 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.
