County reports 17 new COVID cases

Seventeen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chaves County on Tuesday, according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

Twenty-five counties and three correctional institutions reported 478 new cases in the daily update from the health department. Bernalillo County had the most at 132, followed by 54 in Eddy County, 30 in Doña Ana County, 27 in Lea County and 20 in Sandoval County.

The total number of cases in the state since March 2020 is now 211,970, including 9,286 in Chaves County.

One death related to COVID-19 was reported Tuesday, a man in his 60s from Eddy County. He had been hospitalized.

The total number of deaths in the state is 4,415 with 173 in Chaves County.

The number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state jumped by 32 from Monday’s report to 180.

In terms of vaccinations, 65.1% of New Mexicans age 18 or older have completed a vaccine series, and 73.4% have had at least one dose, according to the NMDOH vaccine dashboard.
