Letter: Get immunized for yourself, and to protect others

I have been following the COVID controversy and am amazed. The U.S. is number one in cases and deaths from the virus and will probably stay that way with so many people refusing vaccinations and masking. Vaccinations do work and masking helps prevent the spread of the disease.

If it were not for immunizations in the past, millions of people would have died from smallpox, measles, diphtheria, polio, typhoid and other epidemics. Probably many of the anti-vaxxers would not be here if their ancestors had not been immunized. My mothers’ two older brothers died of diphtheria before there was a vaccine and that was not uncommon.

Please get immunized — not just for yourself but for the other people you might infect.
