State reports 578 COVID-19 cases Thursday

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 578 new cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths related to the virus Thursday.

Twenty-seven counties reported new cases in the daily case update, including 61 in Chaves County. In southeast New Mexico, Lea County also reported 61 cases, Curry County had 29, Eddy County had 28, Roosevelt County reported 19, Quay County had 11 and Lincoln County had seven.

Across the state, Bernalillo County had 119 cases, Doña Ana reported 40, San Juan County had 42, and McKinley and Sandoval each had 23 cases.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is 239,006. Chaves County has had 11,176.

The eight deaths reported were two men, one in his 60s and one in his 70s, from Bernalillo County; a man in his 80s from Catron County; a man in his 70s from Doña Ana County; a woman in her 70s from Lincoln County; a woman in her 50s from Mora County; a man in his 70s from Roosevelt County; and a woman in her 70s from Sandoval County.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the state is 4,585 including 178 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 397 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in New Mexico.
