Two COVID-19 deaths in Chaves County reported Friday

Two Chaves County women were among the 20 deaths related to COVID-19 announced Friday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

One woman was in her 50s and had been hospitalized and the other was in her 90s and was a resident of Casa Maria Health Center. Both had underlying health conditions, according to the daily case update from NMDOH.

Of the remaining deaths in the state, six were from Lea County; three from Bernalillo County; two each from Eddy and McKinley counties; and one each from Sandoval, San Juan, San Miguel, Taos and Cibola counties.

Sixteen had been hospitalized and eight had underlying conditions. Their ages ranged from three people in their 40s to four people in their 90s.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico is 4,605 including 180 in Chaves County.

Thirty-one counties and two correctional institutions reported 885 new cases Friday, including 70 in Chaves County.

In the southeast region, Curry County reported 29, De Baca County had three, Eddy County had 67, Lea County had 103, Lincoln County had 11, and Quay and Roosevelt counties each had four.

Across the state, Bernalillo County had 160 cases and Doña Ana county had 100.

The total number of cases in the state is now 239,886 including 11,246 in Chaves County.

As of Friday, 370 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.
