Chaves County woman among Tuesday’s COVID deaths

A Chaves County woman in her 70s is among the 12 deaths related to COVID-19 reported Tuesday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

The woman had been hospitalized, according to the daily case update from the health department. She is the 181st death related to the virus in Chaves County.

Of the other 11 deaths, Bernalillo and Lea counties each reported two. Curry, Doña Ana, Grant, Lincoln, Rio Arriba, Roosevelt and San Juan County each reported one. Nine had been hospitalized and eight had underlying health conditions. The ages of the deceased ranged from a man in his 30s from Bernalillo County to three women and a man in their 70s.

The total number of deaths in the state is 4,631.

Twenty-seven counties and three correctional facilities reported 749 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 242,399.

Chaves County reported 13 new cases, giving the county a total of 11,356.

Also in southeast New Mexico, Curry County had 32, Eddy County had 35, Lea County had 107, Lincoln County had 11, Quay County had five and Roosevelt had eight.

Elsewhere in the state, Bernalillo County had 215 cases, Doña Ana County had 74, Sandoval County had 46, and San Juan County had 45.

As of Tuesday, 352 people were hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.
