Two more COVID-19 deaths reported Thursday in Chaves County

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 80s from Chaves County were among 13 deaths related to COVID-19 reported in the state Thursday.

Their deaths bring the county’s total to 184. The man had underlying health conditions and the woman had been hospitalized, according to the daily case update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

Of the other deaths, Eddy and Santa Fe counties also reported two each. Doña Ana, Lea, Lincoln, McKinley, Quay, Sandoval and San Juan each reported one death. The man from Chaves County was the youngest and the woman from Chaves County and another woman from Santa Fe County in her 80s were the oldest. Eight were hospitalized and 10 had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in the state is 4,662.

In Thursday’s report, 28 counties reported 882 new cases of COVID-19, including 54 in Chaves County.

Curry County reported 30 cases, Eddy County had 28, Lea County had 63, Lincoln County had 45, Quay County had 11 and Roosevelt County had nine.

Elsewhere in the state, Bernalillo County had 231 cases, Doña Ana County had 77, and Sandoval County had 58.

The total number of cases in the state since March 2020 is 243,962 including 11,437 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 388 people were hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.
