Two local COVID-19 deaths reported Friday

Two Chaves County men were among the 13 deaths related to COVID-19 in the state Friday.

One man in his 50s had underlying health conditions and the other, in his 60s, had been hospitalized, according to the New Mexico Department of Health’s daily case update. Their deaths bring the county’s total to 186.

San Juan and Doña Ana County each reported three deaths. Bernalillo reported two, and Curry, Eddy and Sandoval counties each reported one.

The total number of deaths in the state is now 4,675.

Twenty-nine counties and one correctional facility reported 762 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, including 67 in Chaves County.

Among the southeast New Mexico counties, Curry County reported 30 cases, Eddy County had 80, Lea County had 89, Lincoln County had 18, Quay County had eight and Roosevelt had five.

Bernalillo County had the most in the state with 119. Doña Ana County had 83 and San Juan County had 58.

The total number of cases in the state since March 2020 is 244,720 including 11,504 in Chaves County.

As of Friday, there were 354 people hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.
