Chaves County reports 60 new COVID-19 cases

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 725 new cases of COVID-19 and 16 deaths related to the disease in the state Thursday.

Thursday’s daily case update included 60 new cases in Chaves County, the third-highest report in the state and the most in the southeast region. Curry County reported 21 cases, Eddy County 46, Lea County 34, Lincoln County 26, Quay County seven and Roosevelt County five.

Across the state, Bernalillo County had 166 cases, Doña Ana County had 69, San Juan County had 53 and Santa Fe County had 38.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is now 248,075 including 11,690 in Chaves County.

Twenty-seven counties and two correctional institutions reported new cases Thursday.

Of the 16 deaths reported, seven were from Bernalillo County. Lea and Valencia counties each reported three. Otero, Quay and Santa Fe each had one death.

The ages of the deceased ranged from a man in his 30s from Valencia County to a woman in her 90s from Bernalillo County. Fourteen had been hospitalized and 12 had underlying health conditions.

The state has now had 4,735 deaths related to COVID-19 including 187 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 360 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.
