More than 1,700 COVID cases in state over 3 days

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 1,776 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 related deaths in the state for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Thirty-one counties and two correctional facilities reported cases over the three days, according to the daily case report.

Chaves County reported 79 new cases, the most in southeast New Mexico. Eddy County had 67, Lea County had 54, Curry County had 24, Lincoln County had 13, Roosevelt County had eight and Quay County had seven.

In the rest of the state, Bernalillo County had 413, San Juan County had 256, McKinley County had 149, Doña Ana County had 125, Otero had 109 and Sandoval had 100.

The total number of cases in the state since March 2020 is now 255,577, including 12,048 in Chaves County.

Of the dozen deaths, Bernalillo and McKinley counties each reported three, and Eddy, Lea, Roosevelt, Taos, Union and Quay counties each reported one.

The ages of the deceased ranged from two men in their 40s from Lea and McKinley counties to several people in their 70s — two women from Bernalillo County, two men from Roosevelt and Taos counties and a woman from Quay County. Nine of them had been hospitalized and six had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in the state is 4,823, including 190 in Chaves County.

As of Monday, 293 people were hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.

The NMDOH case update said due to technical issues, data on the vaccine dashboard was not updated Monday.
