County’s fourth COVID-19 death this week reported

Chaves County on Friday recorded its fourth death this week related to COVID-19, according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

The man in his 40s had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions, according to the department’s daily case update.

Ten other deaths related to the virus were also reported in the state Friday. They included four people from Bernalillo County, two from Lea County, and one each from Curry, Eddy, Quay and San Juan counties.

The ages of the deceased ranged from several other people in their 40s to a woman in her 80s. Six had been hospitalized and eight had underlying heath conditions.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico is 4,930 and 196 in Chaves County.

Thirty counties and one correctional institution reported 801 cases in the state Friday, including 28 in Chaves County.

In southeast New Mexico, Curry County had nine cases, De Baca County had two, Eddy County had 24, Lea County had seven, Lincoln County had 29, Quay County had three and Roosevelt County had seven.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is 263,755, including 12,405 in Chaves County.

As of Friday, 332 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.
