A ceremony for a deceased local veteran will be held this Sunday.

Stephen Lee, commander of American Legion Post 61, said Iraq War veteran and Roswell native Troy Green will be honored at an event scheduled for 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 200 North Pennsylvania Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Green, a Roswell High School graduate and former E4 Assistant Specialist in the U.S. Air Force, died in 2013 at the age of 39. Green’s father Ralph Green, a veteran of the Navy and Army National Guard, will be presented with a plaque and flag honoring his son.

The event will also seek to raise awareness of suicide among military service members.

Dagmar Youngberg, a Veterans Service officer with the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services, will speak about the issue and how people can work to reduce suicides among service members.
