Chaves County reports 100 new COVID-19 cases

The New Mexico Department of Health reported more than 3,600 new cases of COVID-19 over a three-day period and 14 deaths related to the disease, including one from Chaves County, in its Monday case update.

Thirty-two counties and four correctional institutions reported 3,658 new cases for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Chaves County had 100 cases.

That was the most reported in southeast New Mexico. Eddy County was the second highest at 60, followed by Curry County with 42, Lea County with 32, Lincoln County with 29, Quay County with 17, Roosevelt County with 15 and De Baca County with five.

Bernalillo County reported the most in the state with 993 followed by Doña Ana County with 737, San Juan County with 312, Sandoval County with 246 and Santa Fe County with 242. Valencia County had 153, McKinley County had 130 and Otero County had 105.

The total number of cases in the state since March 2020 is 305,579, including 13,586 in Chaves County.

A Chaves County man in his 90s who had underlying health conditions was among the 14 deaths reported. His is the 215th death in Chaves County related to COVID-19.

Of the other deaths reported Monday, six were from Bernalillo County. San Juan and Valencia counties each reported two deaths. Sandoval, San Miguel and Sierra counties each reported one.

Eleven had been hospitalized and 12 had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in the state is 5,277.

As of Monday, 559 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.
