The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide believed to have occurred Friday northeast of Roswell.

Undersheriff Charles Yslas said 60-year-old Alejandra Medina was found dead on a property she owned in the 70 block of Outlaw Trail early Friday.

A suspect is in custody and being held on active warrants not related to the death. Yslas said as of Saturday the name of the suspect was not being released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

He explained that detectives with the Sheriff’s Office were in Albuquerque Saturday, where an autopsy was being conducted on Medina to determine the cause of death.
