Los Lunas defeats Artesia 40-28 in state title game

On Saturday afternoon, The Los Lunas Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 40-28 in the 5A state championship game in Los Lunas. Los Lunas built a 20-7 lead in the first quarter. Neither team would score in the second quarter and they headed to their locker rooms at half time with the Tigers still leading 20-7. The Bulldogs would add seven points in the third quarter while Los Lunas scored six, making it 26-14, Tigers, headed into the fourth. Each team would find the end zone twice in the final period for the 40-28 final. The Bulldogs finish their season 9-4. Los Lunas, in winning the championship, capped an undefeated season, finishing 13-0. Other NMAA State Championship scores from Saturday (from The Associated Press): Class 3A: Robertson 28, St. Michael’s 7; Class 4A: Lovington 41, Ruidoso 22; Class 6A: Cleveland 35, Rio Rancho 14.
