State reports 1,132 new COVID cases, 12 deaths

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 1,132 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths in its daily case update Tuesday.

New cases were reported in 31 counties and one correctional facility, including 22 in Chaves County.

Eddy County had the highest number of cases in southeast New Mexico with 33 followed by Curry County with 24, Lea County with 20, Quay County with 18, Lincoln County with 10, Roosevelt County with nine and De Baca County with six.

Bernalillo County had 340 cases, Doña Ana County had 157 and Sandoval County had 117.

The total number of cases in New Mexico is now 314,264, including 13,824 in Chaves County.

Of the dozen deaths related to COVID-19 that were reported, five of the deceased were from Valencia County. Bernalillo, Cibola, Curry, Grant, San Juan, Santa Fe and Taos counties each reported one death.

The ages of the deceased ranged from a man in his 30s from Santa Fe County to a woman in her 90s from Valencia County. Ten had been hospitalized and eight had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in the state is 5,367, including 217 in Chaves County.

As of Tuesday, 633 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.
