Some of the state’s best high school football players will take the field at the Wool Bowl in Roswell this weekend for the annual New Mexico High School Coaches Association Red vs. Green All-Star Football Games.

Chaves County schools are well-represented with a number of local athletes listed as all-stars.

There will be a couple of games — one at noon featuring “small school” athletes from classifications up through 3A; and one at 3 p.m. for “large school” players from schools in 4A-6A.

According to information posted at www.nmhsca.com, local athletes selected as all-stars in the small-school category include: center Emmanuel Cardenas, Dexter; slot Doryan Galvan, Hagerman; inside linebacker Jonah Bejarano, Hagerman; secondary Eric Brock, Dexter; running back Juan Fuentes, Dexter; offensive lineman Jeremiah Dickman, Gateway Christian; receiver Darrell Ochieng, NMMI; kicker Sebastian Miereles, Hagerman; inside linebacker Diego Hernandez, NMMI; and DE/outside linebacker Raul Sigala, Dexter.

Local athletes listed as all-stars in the big-school category include: receiver Diego Nunez, Goddard; secondary Luis Pando, Artesia; running back Jake Berrera, Artesia; center Pablo Zaragoza, Goddard; defensive line Jeff Irish, Roswell; DE/outside linebacker Gonzalo Garcia, Roswell; DE/outside linebacker Layton Victor, Goddard; and “at large,” Zaiden Lopez, Artesia.
