Roswell police and Chaves County sheriff’s deputies stand at one of the entrances at the Walmart Supercenter on North Main Street Thursday night. The building was placed on lockdown and evacuated. Rumors that circulated on Facebook of an active shooter were quickly disputed by both Chaves County Sheriff Mike Herrington and the Roswell Police Department. Todd Wildermuth, public information officer with the RPD, said law enforcement officers who were in the area were searching for suspects and other individuals involved in a shooting several blocks away, on West Pine Lodge Road. He added that two people were detained. (Alex Ross Photo)
