The city of Roswell is coordinating a shopping enticement intended to get visitors, as well as locals, into stores.

The Candy Cane Hunt started Wednesday and continues until Dec. 23, said Amanda Dickerson, the lead for the Roswell Visitors Center, and Amanda Fitts, guest service stores supervisor. Both are employees with the Public Affairs Department of the city of Roswell.

People who come to the Visitors Center will hear about the hunt, which will have them searching for candy canes in downtown stores and businesses.

Hunters won’t know which locations are participating, but they will come across signs inside stores to let them know if they have found a candy cane giver.

Once individuals or groups collect three candy canes from three different stores, they can pick up a free gift at the Visitors Center at 426 N. Main St.

Dickerson and Fitts said the promotion is intended to drive business to downtown merchants and businesses by giving people a fun reason to look inside various locations.

“We are trying to make it more fun for our visitors this holiday season,” said Fitts. “We are also trying to help support our downtown businesses by bringing in a little bit more of the tourists and even locals.”
