Betty Vogel

Betty Vogel danced her way into heaven December 1, 2021 and happily joined her parents Samuel and Ida Mae Montgomery, her husband Bob Vogel, and 9 siblings in eternity.

Betty was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico and lived in Hobbs, Artesia, and Roswell before moving to Albuquerque after Bob’s death in 1979. In Albuquerque, she completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of New Mexico. She loved learning and was very proud to finish her degree. She loved New Mexico and missed the skies, sunsets, balloons, and mountains after her move to Amarillo.

If there could be one word that describes Betty throughout her life, it might be joyful. She lived life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved the Montgomery family and her husband’s family, the Waldrips. She maintained communication with many nieces and nephews until late in her life. She taught her 3 children to love the Lord by her enthusiasm and passion for Jesus. She taught them the value of hard work and learning and was very proud that all three of her children graduated from college.

She modeled the value of hard work by working at many jobs throughout her life. Among those was working for publications and with the newspaper Bible. She loved writing and her family treasures all the writing she produced through the years.

In her later years, her memories diminished, but some things remained strong. She loved Jesus, she loved to worship Him, she would burst out in hymns many times, even in some difficult moments. She loved family. She played with her grandchildren and great grandchildren with enthusiasm. She played baseball, assisted with their rollerblading, cards and games up to the last week of her life. She was kind and caring, generous, spunky, and had a stubborn streak that kept her independent and strong all 93 years and 15 days of life.

Grave side services will be held at a later date in Artesia, New Mexico where she’ll be laid to rest with her husband Bob. Memorials can be made to Trinity Baptist Church Missions or to a charity of your choice.
