State reports 788 COVID cases Tuesday

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 788 new cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths in its daily case update Tuesday.

Chaves County reported 13 new cases and had no deaths. In the southeast region, Lea County had the highest number of cases with 42, and Eddy County had 30. Curry County had 18, Quay County had nine, Lincoln County had seven, Roosevelt County had three and De Baca County had one.

Bernalillo County had the most cases in the state with 263, followed by Doña Ana with 104, Valencia County with 46 and Sandoval County with 34. A total of 30 counties and the Otero County Processing Center reported new cases in Tuesday’s report.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is 332,975, including 14,544 in Chaves County.

Bernalillo County reported two of the seven deaths, a man in his 50s and a man in his 80s. The other deaths were a woman in her 80s from Curry County, a woman in her 90s from Doña Ana County, a man in his 80s from Otero County, a man in his 50s from Rio Arriba County and a man in his 80s from San Juan County.

Three of the deceased had been hospitalized and four had underlying health conditions.

The number of deaths in the state related to COVID-19 is now 5,491, including 223 in Chaves County.

As of Tuesday, 666 people are hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.
