State reports 33 COVID deaths Thursday

The New Mexico Department of Health announced 1,299 new cases of COVID-19 and 33 deaths in its daily case update Thursday.

Thirty-two counties and two correctional facilities reported new cases Thursday, including 78 in Chaves County.

Also in southeast New Mexico, Curry County had 42, De Baca County reported one, Eddy County had 37, Lea County had 29, Lincoln and Quay counties each had nine, and Roosevelt County had 51.

Statewide, Bernalillo County had 398 new cases, followed by Doña Ana with 185.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is 335,617, including 14,703 in Chaves County.

Of the 33 deaths reported, 10 were from Bernalillo County and seven from San Juan County. McKinley and Sandoval counties each reported three and Doña Ana County reported two. Colfax, Curry, Grant, Otero, Roosevelt, Santa Fe, Taos and Valencia each reported one death.

Twenty eight of the deceased had been hospitalized and 20 had underlying health conditions. Their ages ranged from a woman in her 30s from McKinley County to two men in their 90s from Bernalillo County.

The total number of deaths reported is 5,549, including 223 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 661 people are hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.
