State reports 44 COVID deaths Thursday

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 44 deaths related to COVID-19 on Thursday along with more than 1,000 new cases.

The deaths included a Chaves County woman in her 60s who had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions, according to Thursday’s daily case update.

Bernalillo County reported 18 deaths. San Juan County had four. Doña Ana and Sandoval counties each reported three. Torrance and Valencia counties each reported two. Cibola, Colfax, Eddy, Lea, Luna, McKinley, Mora, Roosevelt, Otero, Socorro and Taos counties each reported one death. Thirty-three of the deceased had been hospitalized and 30 had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico since March 2020 is 5,745, including 231 in Chaves County.

Thirty-two counties and one correctional facility reported 1,150 new cases of COVID-19 in Thursday’s update.

Chaves County reported 57 new cases. Other reports from southeast New Mexico are 37 new cases in Roosevelt County, 33 in Lea County, 31 in both Curry and Eddy counties, and 11 in both Lincoln and Quay counties.

Around the state, Bernalillo County had 387, Doña Ana County reported 121, Santa Fe County had 88 and Sandoval County had 86.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is now 342,649, including 15,014 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 546 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in New Mexico.
