Two people were arrested in connection with a shooting early Sunday morning that resulted in a man being injured.

Chaves County Undersheriff Charles Yslas said Anthony Alvarado and Deniece Lopez were arrested following the investigation of a shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of East 17th Street east of Roswell. Deputies responded to a call of a gunshot victim at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

“There were intoxicated individuals. The victim was transported to the hospital. He was shot in the lower extremities with a non-life-threatening wound,” Yslas said.

Lopez was present at the scene and was questioned, Yslas said. It is alleged an altercation had occurred among the victim, Lopez and another man who was identified as Alvarado.

“The victim was inside of a vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle, it’s alleged that Alvarado shot him one time in the lower extremities,” Yslas said.

After questioning other individuals and executing several search warrants, Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Alvarado charging him with aggravated battery and tampering with evidence.

Lopez was also arrested, charged with conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence.

Both were arrested Sunday and were booked into the Chaves County Detention Center.
