State reports 31 deaths, 1,654 new COVID cases

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 1,654 new cases of COVID-19 and 31 related deaths in Tuesday’s daily case update.

Thirty-one counties and three correctional facilities reported new cases Tuesday, including 46 in Chaves County.

Across the region, Lea County had 98 cases, Curry County had 62, Eddy County had 56, Roosevelt County had 46, Lincoln County had 17, Quay County had nine and De Baca County had eight.

Statewide, Bernalillo County had 511, Doña Ana had 164, Sandoval and San Miguel counties each had 101, and Santa Fe County had 98.

The total number of cases in New Mexico since March 2020 is 359,116, including 15,740 in Chaves County.

None of the 31 deaths reported Tuesday were from Chaves County. Twenty of the deceased were from Bernalillo County, seven from Sandoval County, two from San Juan County and one each from Otero and Valencia counties. All of them had been hospitalized and 21 had underlying health conditions. Their ages ranged from two men in their 30s from Bernalillo County to four women and one man in their 90s from Bernalillo, Sandoval, Otero and Valencia counties.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico is 5,897, including 233 in Chaves County.

As of Tuesday, 493 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19, an increase of 21 from Monday.
