An officer with the Roswell Police Department received minor injuries Tuesday evening in a hit-and-run crash.

The officer was on patrol at 6:55 p.m., traveling south on North Main Street, when his patrol vehicle was struck by a westbound SUV that ran a stop sign on Seventh Street, according to Todd Wildermuth, RPD public information officer.

The patrol officer suffered some cuts but was not seriously injured, Wildermuth said.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene in the vehicle, which was later located in the 600 block of North Virginia Avenue with the assistance of the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the SUV, whose name has not been released, appeared at the police station Wednesday, according to Wildermuth. He was interviewed and released. Charges are pending as the investigation wraps up, Wildermuth said.
