Editor: Recently, Carlsbad had a young member of our community pass away. The young man, Rocky Armendarez, was a member of our Shorthorn All Star Team. The news of his passing came out just before Rocky’s team and the Roswell Noon Optimists were set to play for the 9-11 Little League All-Star title at the tournament in Los Lunas.
The Noon Optimist coaches and players originally offered to forfeit and let Shorthorn win, but they then came up with an even better solution. The two teams agreed to play the game strictly for fun and share the title. The game was dedicated in Rocky’s memory and for his love of the game.
